Eye Surgery Financing in Houston & Bellaire, TX

Paying for Eye Surgery and Premium Lens Upgrades

At Surgical Eye Experts, we accept Medicare Part B and most major commercial insurance plans for medically necessary care. Some of the procedures patients ask about, such as premium intraocular lens (IOL) upgrades and certain interventional dry eye treatments, are not fully covered by insurance and involve an out-of-pocket cost. CareCredit is one financing option many of our patients use to spread that cost over time.

CareCredit Financing

CareCredit is a healthcare credit card accepted by many ophthalmology, dental, vision, and medical practices across the United States. It is a third-party lender, not part of Surgical Eye Experts. You apply directly with CareCredit. Approval, credit limits, promotional offers, and interest rates are determined by CareCredit based on the information you provide. Read the terms carefully before you sign up.

According to CareCredit, the card can be used for both planned procedures and unexpected costs at participating providers. Promotional financing options vary and may include short-term plans with deferred interest if paid in full within the promotional period, or longer-term plans with reduced fixed interest rates. Always confirm the current terms on the CareCredit website before applying.

What Insurance Typically Covers

Most medically necessary ophthalmology services are covered by Medicare and commercial insurance. Coverage varies by plan, so we encourage you to verify your benefits before scheduling. Common categories include:

  • Standard cataract surgery with a monofocal IOL (covered by Medicare Part B and most commercial plans).
  • Glaucoma diagnosis, monitoring, and treatment (including SLT laser and many MIGS implants).
  • Pterygium removal when symptomatic.
  • YAG capsulotomy after cataract surgery.
  • Prescription medications for dry eye, glaucoma, and other conditions.

What Typically Involves an Out-of-Pocket Upgrade

Some technologies are categorized by Medicare and commercial insurers as elective upgrades. Insurance covers the standard procedure; the patient pays the difference for the upgrade. Common examples in our practice include:

  • Light Adjustable Lens (RxSight LAL) - the only IOL that can be fine-tuned after surgery using UV light.
  • Toric IOLs for correcting astigmatism at the time of cataract surgery.
  • Multifocal and extended depth-of-focus IOLs for reducing dependence on glasses for multiple distances.
  • IPL therapy (OptiLight) for chronic dry eye and meibomian gland dysfunction (often not covered).
  • YAG laser vitreolysis for symptomatic eye floaters.

We provide an itemized breakdown of any upgrade fees in writing before you commit to a procedure. There are no surprise charges added after surgery.

Payment Methods We Accept

  • Medicare Part B
  • Most major commercial insurance plans
  • Cash, check, and major credit cards (Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Discover)
  • CareCredit

Frequently Asked Questions About Eye Surgery Financing

Does insurance cover cataract surgery?

Yes. Medicare Part B and most commercial insurance plans cover medically necessary cataract surgery and a standard monofocal IOL. Premium IOLs (toric, multifocal, Light Adjustable Lens) are categorized as upgrades and involve an out-of-pocket cost. Learn more on our cataract surgery page.

Is CareCredit a loan or a credit card?

CareCredit is a healthcare credit card issued by Synchrony Bank. It is not a loan from Surgical Eye Experts. You apply directly with CareCredit, and your account, credit limit, and interest terms are managed by CareCredit.

Will applying for CareCredit affect my credit score?

CareCredit performs a credit check when you apply. Like any credit application, this can affect your credit score. Review the CareCredit terms on their website for current details before applying.

Can I use CareCredit for the cost of premium IOL upgrades?

Yes. Many patients use CareCredit to finance the upgrade portion of cataract surgery (for example, the additional cost of a Light Adjustable Lens or toric IOL). You can also use it for self-pay procedures like IPL therapy.

Do you offer in-house payment plans?

We do not offer in-house financing. CareCredit and standard payment options (cash, check, major credit cards) are how patients pay for upgrades and self-pay services.

How can I get a cost estimate before scheduling?

Call us at 281-800-1585 with your insurance information and the procedure you are considering. We will provide an estimate based on your specific plan and the IOL or service you want.
